Abstract In this paper, we discuss a method to determine optimal software release time based on a change-point model by multi-attribute utility theory (MAUT). Concretely, we develop the two-attribute utility function by using an additive form based on the cost and reliability. By maximizing the utility function, we estimate optimal software release time, change-point, and total software cost from the perspective of the utility. Finally, we show the numerical examples by using actual data sets and we check the performances of those cost function and utility function.
