Abstract In this paper, repairable multi-component systems in a series configuration are considered. The objective of the paper is to propose a global framework for the modelling of the maintenance process. The system can be subjected to planned preventive, condition-based and corrective maintenances. Maintenances are assumed to restore the system better-than-old but worse-than new. The stochastic modelling takes into account any kind of dependence. In this context, the residual useful life of the system can be derived. In a statistical approach, the likelihood function can be obtained. A comprehensive method to build an entirely specified parametric model is discussed, considering either one kind or multiple kinds of maintenances.
