Abstract This paper applies the citation analysis to identify research trends in the field of e-learning quality, based on the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Science Citation Index (SCI) databases from 2003 to 2012. To do this, 35,482 citations of 1,647 documents identified from SSCI and SCI texts were analyzed. Results showed that research trends varied rapidly and richly in many disciplines between the two time periods (2003-2007 and 2008-2012). This study may be of benefit to scholars seeking to understand the literature surrounding e-learning quality and explore promising research questions.
