Abstract Cyber attack on the Internet has become a problem in recent years, and it has been becoming more sophis- ticated and complicated. The demands for the im- provement of the reliability and security of the server connected with the Internet have increased. Gener- ally, cyber attacks occur in phases. After collecting properties of server, attacks with data leakage occurs. This paper formulates stochastic models for a server with multiple cyber attacks which has a host-based IDS. It is assumed that cyber attack is checked at pe- riodic time. The total expected costs are derived and optimal policies which minimize them are discussed. Finally, numerical examples are given.
