Abstract This paper considers fog computing as a well-suited paradigm for developing Industry 4.0 systems, both hardware and software, providing high level Quality of Service and high-level experience during their real-time exploitation. The performance of the system implemented in a fog computing framework is analyzed using DELTA factors, scalable architecture, and machine learning algorithms. Digital twining is identified as a future approach to simulate, observe/monitor, and decide on preventive maintenance and service placement to optimize the system dependability.
