| Abstract | System reliability is an important issue in modern production
systems. In many cases, system performance depends
on both redundancy and component assignment. This study considers
the component assignment problem for a consecutive-kout-of-n:F system with embedded u-out-of-m:F subsystems. This
model is more general than traditional models because each subsystem
can fail even if not all components fail, and each subsystem
can have a different number of components. The problem
is formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem. To solve
it efficiently, we propose a specialized algorithm with four pruning
conditions. These conditions reduce the search space and improve
computational efficiency. Numerical experiments show that
the proposed method works effectively. The proposed model and
algorithm can be useful for practical applications where system
structures are complex and heterogeneous.
