Abstract The automotive industry, due to the volume and complexity of its products, has a serious impact on the most diverse areas of the country’s economy, being tightly integrated with most industrial sectors. One of the key factors in evaluating the industry’s impact is the localization rate of production of finished goods and their components. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the methodology of calculating the localization rate of an automotive industry, using the country of Russia as an example, demonstrate the calculation of the localization rate of the automotive industry as a whole and its passenger car segment; and demonstrate the new approach for calculating the localization rate of key industries for the passenger car segment of the automotive industry based on the method of interindustry balances.
