Abstract | The last four decades have viewed a major thrust on the need for reliable software resulting in developing numerous software reliability growth models (SRGMs). In reality, it is noticed that fault reduction factor (FRF) is an important factor which controls the fault debugging process. The variation in environmental factors can influence the FRF. As the testing progresses, the impact of environmental factors gets decrease. Considering these facts, FRF has been defined in the terms of testing time. Moreover, testing coverage is an important factor which helps software developers to make crucial decisions. This article comprises of general framework of non-homogenous Poisson process (NHPP) based SRGM incorporating both FRF and testing coverage factor. On the other hand, the process of testing is accompanied with variations in testing efficiency, effort associated with testing, code expansion ratio, density of related defects, etc. This discrepancy due to aforementioned factors might crop up at any point during the testing phase. The time point in the phase of testing which associate themselves with these dissimilitudes is referred to as their effect on the model parameters is noted. Numerical illustration shows that the model provides better approximation as compared to other existing SRGMs.
