Abstract Assembly system reliability plays an important role on the auto-body dimensional quality and productivity. For the serial-parallel hybrid assembly system commonly used in the production process, a new system reliability model integrating more process parameters in the multi-station is proposed in this paper. The tooling uptime, yield in each production chain of the hybrid system, and dimensional quality of auto bodies are integrated in the reliability model. Furthermore, the potential usage of the proposed reliability model for dimensional control, such as optimization design of the maintenance schedule, fixture layout and wearing rates of fixture components in the assembly process, is discussed in this paper.
