Abstract | The paper considers a linear consecutive-k-out-ofn: F system and a linear connected-(r, s)-out-of-(m, n): F system. It is assumed that the components are identical and the failure times of components follow an Exponential distribution. The systems are inspected periodically to find failed components and if the system fails between inspection times, the failed components are replaced with new ones. If the system survives until inspection time points, the system state (component states) is inspected. A preventive maintenance policy is proposed and it is based on the criticality measure which is related to the number of failed components in minimal cut sets of systems. If the value of the criticality measure satisfies the predetermined condition at inspection times, the failed components of systems are replaced with new ones to prevent system failures in the next inspection interval. The expected cost rate is used as an optimization criterion. The expected cost rate is estimated by simulation and numerical examples are studied.
