Development of Framework for Maintenance Management in Healthcare Industry in Saudi Arabia

Abstract The health sector is one of the brightest spots in the Kingdom's development and building, as the health sector has witnessed conspicuous development through the consecutive development plans. These projects include developing and constructing medical cities, specialized and general hospitals, and medical towers. These projects are to cover the entire Kingdom's regions and contribute to advancing the level of the health services. Therefore, to ensure these hospitals and medicals cites are able to meet the patients’ requirement with acceptable medical standard, sate of the art maintenance management systems should be implemented. By providing and implementing maintenance management systems in most of Saudi’s hospitals, focusing on patient medical service and hospital assets reliability will increase. This will also cause a decrease in the breakdown of equipment, which in turn leads to reduction of maintenance cost. The aim of this research is to provide a maintenance framework to manage the maintenance activities within the Saudi Arabia hospitals. Maintenance practices and lessons learnt from the manufacturing industry were studied to adapt a maintenance management system to be compatible with an industry with different qualifications and cultures.
