Abstract Recently, cloud computing has been widely used for the purpose of using server and storage on the Internet [1, 2]. It has been expanded that demands for data protection, early recovery and short response time increase. Cloud computing system which has a distributed information and communication processing has been proposed [3–5]. The authors have indicated the cloud computing system provides short response time for client by simulation [3]. The cloud computing system is distributed storage system that intelligent nodes execute job processes near clients. In this paper, we consider the reliability model of distributed information processing for cloud computing. We have formulated a stochastic model of a server system with intelligent nodes and derive the expected numbers of the replication and of application processing. Further, we derive the cost effectiveness and discuss an optimal replication interval to minimize it.
