Abstract The paper proposed an analytical method to facilitate the calculation of integrated importance measure (IIM) for component state based on multi-state multi-valued decision diagram (MMDD). First, the physical meaning and decomposition of IIM are discussed. Then, the modeling method of MMDD based on multi-state fault tree analysis (MFTA) is introduced. Third, the IIM analysis method based on MMDD is proposed with a 6-step procedure. Finally, according to the MFTA of a power system, a case study is implemented to demonstrate the MMDD modeling and IIM calculation process. The results show that MMDD provide a convenient framework to evaluate the IIM of each component state in system maintenance.
